Will You Run for Us?

The Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon is on Bank Holiday Monday the 6th of June and we are looking for teams or individuals to enter, to support services for children and adults with disabilities in Cork.

The marathon is an official 42.195km (26 miles and 385 yards) marathon course, and serves as a Boston qualifier. If you’re not up for running this on your own, you could always run as part of a team.

The Team Relay makes this The Marathon for Everyone! The relay offers runners, joggers and walkers of all distances an opportunity to take part in the marathon without having to complete the full 26.2 miles. If you’re over 18 on the day you’re included and, remember, there’s no upper age limit! The Relay is run on the marathon course, starting and finishing on St Patrick’s Street.

For more information see www.corkcitymarathon.ie. If you would like a sponorship pack, please contact Maria on 021-4616836 or at corkfr@enableireland.ie.
Mad Men Marketing Ball 2016

Enable Ireland is delighted to be chosen as the charity partner for The Marketing Institute Ball, Cork and will be benificiaries of the raffle proceeds on the night.

This year’s title sponsor is Cork’s 96fm & C103 and the event is hosted at The Radisson Blu Hotel. The marketing and business community of Cork will enjoy an evening complete with a complimentary drinks reception sponsored by Barry & Fitzwilliam and entertainment from Cork’s newest female duo VELVET, who will recreate all the classic Swing and Jazz hits from the Art Deco, Mad Men era.

‘Mad Men’ the hit television series is this year’s theme for the ball so it is set to be a glamorously themed 1950s/1960s evening for Cork City and its environs.

Revelers will then move to the Mad Men inspired dining room where The Radisson Blu Hotel will put on an impressive meal while the incredibly popular Motown Big Band ‘The Papa Zitas’ and a popular DJ from Cork’s 96fm will be on hand to keep the guests entertained throughout the night.

The MII Ball is also renowned for its goody bags, gifts, couples gifts and prizes and this year certainly won’t disappoint. Tickets are €1,000 per table of ten. To register, see: www.mii.ie/event/mii_ball. If you are in a position to donate a raffle prize, please email Maria Desmond at corkfr@enableireland.ie

The Power of the Gaze
Cork Adult Services welcomes new technology

It’s always an exciting time when we get to shop for new technology which will enhance the work we do here at Enable Ireland.

Recent fundraising efforts mean that we are now in a position to order ‘Eye Gaze’. Eye tracking technology is a step towards independence for persons with certain disabilities. It can be used to control an electronic device and as a text-to-speech tool.

This device can enable a person who has never been able to communicate through speech, to 'speak' for the first time through a computer, allow a person with a physical disability to control their environment through smart homes technologies - allowing them to control heating and lighting, so that they are less dependent on people to assist them. It can ensure that a person with a disability can access education and employment. It can, truly, be lifechanging.

We're so thrilled to be welcoming this incredible piece of technology into our Cork Adult Services at Little Island. It will be used to assist and train adults with disabilities.

We can't wait to show you the technology in action when it arrives!
Top Marks for Initiative!

As if the 2 Year BTEI group of students in Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa weren’t busy enough with their classes in the run up to Christmas, they took it upon themselves to run a fundraising event for Enable Ireland.

For days they set up shop and sold merchandise outside of the canteen in the college and raised €455.15. Thanks to Emma Lupton and her students for choosing Enable Ireland.
