We all dream of home ownership, yet unfortunately, in today’s economy, it’s more difficult than ever. But right in the heart of Cork, a huge opportunity has emerged, and that dream is about to become a reality for one lucky family.

Cork could be your new neighbourhood thanks to Enable Ireland's ‘Win A House Cork’ campaign, where you have the chance to win a luxurious three-bedroom home in Janeville, Carrigaline, all while supporting an incredible cause.

The campaign not only offers a chance to win a house, but the funds will go to Enable Ireland’s children’s centre at Curraheen.

This facility is pivotal in providing a range of services to children with physical and sensory disabilities. The seven-acre site boasts state-of-the-art facilities including a hydrotherapy pool, an accessible playground, and the Lavanagh House for children’s respite care.

The inspiring story of Adam Clarke

The 'Win A House Cork' campaign is enthusiastically supported by the Clarke family, from Newcestown in Co Cork. This is a family who knows how vital these services are.

Therese Clarke’s son, Adam, a courageous seven-year-old, has been receiving life-changing services from Enable Ireland. Born in 2016, little Adam was diagnosed with Triplegic cerebral palsy.

Therese, now a mother of three, says, "He is affected in both legs and upper right side. It took a while to figure out that he also had venous sinus thrombosis, so he was basically having live strokes.

“The key was to get into early intervention, and Enable Ireland was the best. That's where Adam needed to be.”

But Adam’s journey through early intervention and various therapies has been a testament to his resilience and the incredible support he received. "He just kept reaching those milestones and ticking the boxes, all against the norm," Therese says with pride.

Adam’s journey, marked by significant personal and physical developments, highlights the essential role of the service in supporting children like him.

Therese proudly shares Adam's milestones, from walking into school for the first time to mastering his new 'Mickey Mouse' wheelchair.

But Therese says the organisation's approach goes beyond conventional methods, focusing on empowering Adam and teaching the family how to manage his needs. "They also taught Adam that he could do things himself, which is even more important.”

The impact on family life

The family’s journey hasn’t been easy, but the support from Enable Ireland has been a guiding light for the Clarke family.

Adam has been provided with occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, hydrotherapy, guidance from a paediatrician, preschool support, and orthopaedic services, along with the opportunity to consult a child psychologist.

Therese says, “We are so lucky to have the organisation in our corner as they have helped Adam thrive against all odds.”

And it doesn’t seem like anything can stop Adam now. Therese mentions that he participated in The Echo Virtual Women's Mini Marathon, successfully gathering €15,000 in donations for Enable Ireland.

"Adam does what he wants to do. So, in the end, I got bullied into it!”

Modifications to his Kaye walker, specifically the seat and belt, were also made. These changes in the seat's weight distribution really helped him.

“The whole team has been incredible. For Adam, I don’t think he would be anywhere near where he is now without them. Every child is different of course, but it’s done wonders for him.”

This is exactly why Therese and her family support the 'Win a House Cork' campaign. It is not just about winning a home; it's about contributing to a cause that ensures children like Adam continue to receive the support they need.

The prize, a €350,000 end-of-terrace house in the Janeville development in Carrigaline, is accompanied by vouchers worth €10,000 for furnishings and décor. The A-rated house has a fitted kitchen, oak internal doors, contemporary chrome handles, and modern amenities. Janeville is a development from Astra Construction.

"The goal of the campaign is to complete the funding of the children's centre in Cork, benefitting children for generations to come," says Therese. “The funds will help maintain and expand the services for over 1,800 children.”

With tickets priced at €100 and only 10,000 tickets available, purchasing a ticket for ‘Win a House Cork’ represents a gesture of solidarity with families like the Clarkes.

Therese adds, "You can save up for a few weeks and buy one. Or a ticket would provide a fantastic present for someone!”

Picture yourself walking on the patio, and your children playing in the landscaped green areas. Imagine planning your interior décor with a €5,000 voucher for Right Price Tiles and Wood Flooring, and another €5,000 voucher from EZ Living Interiors.

As Therese Clarke and her family show, the 'Win a House Cork' campaign is more than a raffle; it's a lifeline for many families. It's an opportunity to contribute to a cause that empowers children like Adam to reach their full potential.
